September, 2024
Pixel Expo brought together artists, buyers, and companies from across the country, offering a dynamic platform to showcase their creative talents and engage with the wider community.
Pixel Expo took place over a huge weekend at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, in Perth WA on September 28-29, 2024.
The event featured an exhibitor hall, interactive tabletop games, trading card collections, and gaming zones for attendees to immerse themselves in.
On top of that, Pixel Expo hosted thrilling competitions, from cosplay to video game tournaments, adding an extra layer of excitement.
With its potential to become one of Australia’s most captivating events, Pixel Expo not only supports animation and gaming enthusiasts but also helps cultivate the skills that drive the local economy.

Collaboration was at the heart of Pixel Expo Perth.
Workshops, seminars, and panel discussions fostered meaningful dialogue among artists, technologists, cosplayers, and attendees.
This blend of artistic expression, technical innovation, character embodiment, and community development crafted a unique and vibrant atmosphere, distinguishing Pixel Expo Perth from other conventions in Australia.

Photo Wall
On Sunday, I had the honor of serving as an official photographer for Pixel Expo! Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend on Saturday due to prior commitments.
I contributed to the mini pop-up Photo Wall, which was a huge success among the Perth Cosplay Community. It was a busy and incredible weekend, fueled by the excitement of cosplayers eager to get their photos taken!

Safety Over Style?
A major critique of Pixel Expo was its strict ban on prop weapons within the pavilion. While safety is key, many conventions allow prop weapons under guidelines like orange tips, non-metal materials, and size limits.
Pixel Expo’s complete prohibition left some cosplayers feeling their experience was restricted, as props are often essential to their designs. Adopting a more flexible, safety-guided approach in future events could better balance creativity with safety, enhancing the overall experience for everyone.
